It was all hands on deck as the Big Bang Fair 2015 received some remarkable visitors – and remarkable coverage to match

This year, to promote the Big Bang UK Science and Engineering Fair and National Science and Engineering Competition – we’ve created a giant paper boat, scientists have grown the crown jewels and we’ve baked mince flies (to name just a few campaigns). Well, last week was what it’s all been leading up to – the main event, The Big Bang Fair.

This was no ordinary year as, after the event was opened by MP Nick Gibb, we were joined by Prime Minister, David Cameron, who popped in to say hello and met some of the 75,000 young people in attendance whilst walking round the show floor.

Obviously this meant we had to adapt our media strategy pretty sharpish and working with the lovely people at Engineering UK and the British Science Association, the team pulled off some stonking results on the Fair itself as well as the inspirational winners of the National Science and Engineering Competition.

We scored fantastic pieces on BBC Breakfast with our winners and CEO of Engineering UK on the sofa, CBBC Newsround exploring the Fair with their presenter Martin Dougan, BBC Midlands Today (twice), ITV Central (three times), BBC Radio West Midlands, BBC Local News (going out to all 39 local BBC radio stations), The Independent (twice), The I, The Times (twice), The Mirror, The Scotsman, BBC News Online (4 times over) and pictures of the day on Huffington Post and Independent.co.uk alongside bags of regional and online media.

As you might expect, all this resulted in a huge amount of chatter on social media, with 3,836,531 Twitter accounts reached mentioning the Big Bang Fair and a further 2,543,223 about the National Science and Engineering Competition.

Another year, another hugely successful event. Bring on 2016!
