Come and grab a free cup of coffee and go through a privacy check up at one of Facebook’s pop-up cafes

We’ve been working with Facebook to help give the nation a privacy check-up.

To create some conversation about privacy – and help the public ensure that they’ve set their own privacy settings on the social network – we’ve set up a series of cafes where members of the site can grab a cup of coffee and get some advice about how to make decisions about what they share and with whom.

There will be five of the Facebook Cafรฉโ€™s popping up across the UK between August 28 and September 5 which will give out free drinks from its select menu to anyone who takes part in a privacy checkup.

The pop-ups will be coming to London, Brighton, Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

They come as a result of research that shows that well over a quarter of users admit they don’t know how to use the controls on the site. So what better way to learn about how to use them, while learning about Facebook’s approach to privacy and how it now uses data than to do so over a cup of coffee?

As you might expect, the story has been met with a swathe of coverage and we’ve helped the brand to show that they are taking this issue seriously and want to engage with the public to help them take back control.

There have been pieces on the Evening Standard, METRO , Daily Mirror, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail. As well as pieces across major lifestyle titles including Mashable, Forbes, Hypebeast, Eater, PC Mag, Trusted Reviews, Dezeen and a ton of others. As well as coverage across the regional media, which has gone nuts with over 150 pieces of coverage including The National, Aberdeen Evening Express, The Northern Echo, Belfast Telegraph, The Argus, Telegraph & Argus, Irish News and a load more where that came from.

And launch day started with a bang with pieces on Good Morning Britain, Sky Sunrise, Magic FM and about 15 other broadcast. Alongside cracking pieces in Metro (twice), Telegraph and Mirror and much more lifestyle and regional coverage.

Weโ€™re already on 246 pieces as a brief nationwide tour commences to make sure a conversation takes place across the country. So if you can get a space, do get down to one and grab yourself a cuppa this week!
