It’s no secret that we love coins at Hope&Glory, having had the (genuine) honour of working with The Royal Mint.
So getting to work on the launch of a special commemorative coin to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day was a real honour.
The artwork on the £2 coin, made in association with the Imperial War Museums, took inspiration from iconic photography from VE Day in 1945.
One of the images that inspired the design was that of Mrs Patty Burgess thrusting her newspaper into the air on discovering her husband would be returning from the war in Europe.
Truly a joyful snapshot of the hope of family reuniting, which is especially poignant in our current time when many families are unable to be together.
Following some stunning media relations, 270 pieces of coverage were secured across titles such as The Times, The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express and the Daily Star.
Thanks to some savvy broadcast relations, the coin also made a special appearance on Loose Women’s VE Day show.
Safe to say, we smashed it. And the sales of the coin were testament to that too!
