Weโve been buzzing here at Hope&Glory as we set about helping The Royal Mint launch the UKโs first official coin to feature Winnie the Pooh.
Created by The Royal Mint in collaboration with Disney, the new 50p coin uses the original and instantly recognisable watercolour illustrations of E.H Shepard, with the first coin design showing Winnie the Pooh at his happiest; with a jar of his favourite honey.
The coin is a part of a wider collection of commemorative 50p coins featuring Poohโs very best friends Christopher Robin and Piglet, which appear in the series respectively.
In the midst of a national lockdown, the team managed to successfully organise a photoshoot with PA Media (at a socially acceptable distance, of course) who visited The Royal Mint in Wales to capture photography and video footage of all of the Winnie The Pooh coins in the collection being struck as well as interviews with the designer. The content captured on the day was then released onto the PA newswire under embargo, the day before launch and resulted in some fantastic pieces of coverage.
The news of the honey money was picked up way beyond the 100 Acre Wood, with the team at Hope&Glory and The Royal Mint securing 299 pieces of coverage, including fantastic print pieces in The Daily Telegraph, The Sun and Metro, as well as BBC Radio 2 and an impressive seven hits on The Times Radio. Heโs short, heโs fat and heโd be proud of that!
