And something that will grab every angler and hipster hook, line, and sinker.
Ah, the gloriously odd world of footwear. Just when you thought you’d seen it all – bedazzled Birkenstocks, trainers sculpted from sentient sourdough – a new maestro of the bizarre steps into the limelight.
Or, rather, steps out in a pair of Crocs equipped with fishing rods.
We speak, of course, of canyaon, the enigmatic Instagram artisan whose creations defy both logic and, arguably, good taste. Rather than your standard kick this is footwear that doubles as a barbecue, a karaoke machine.
And, most recently, a mobile angling station in the form of canyaon’s “Fishing Crocs”. Yes, fishing Crocs. A fusion of hipster irony and geriatric practicality, these modified hike-style plastic slip-ons are less a shoe and more a multi-tool for the discerning urban angler or, let’s be honest, the individual who seeks attention from the feet up from passersby in Shoreditch.
In place of Disney or Wu-Tang Clan-based charms. canyaon’s Crocs boast fishing lures adorning the toe box. The harness ensure they cling to your feet on the slickest of riverbanks. And, because why not, you can accessorise with reels and bait.
But the pièce de résistance? A telescopic fishing rod, neatly tucked into the heel, ready to spring into action like a sartorial Swiss Army knife. Readying the user for action as they stroll down a canal path, the clack of your fishing Crocs echoing off the graffiti-laden walls and alight on a glint of Hackney canal. Providing the means to whip out your heel rod, assemble it with the ease of a seasoned angler, and cast your line.
Hidden hooks and lures, nestled within the sole, complete the ensemble.
Now, these are one-offs and there is no discernible way of getting your hands on them; canyaon is more provocateur of the utterly peculiar with interest in elevating footwear to an artform based around the hyper-functional absurdity.
However, all the signs suggest that his giant toe-styled Crocs will soon be hitting social media-based retail any time soon. So, in a world awash with the mundane, if you fancy dropping some cash on footwear, which is a glorious, glittering distraction, check out his page.
