This past weekend, Poké-mania took over East London’s ExCeL Centre for the brand’s Europe International Championships.
A whopping 10,000 attendees (compared to last year’s 6,000) watched competitors of all ages battle it out across Pokémon’s TCG, VGC, GO and UNITE, all trying to gain the coveted title of European Champion and a spot at the World Championships in August.
Over the course of the weekend, the team hosted over 90 top-tier media and content creators from across the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Nordics and Poland.
On Friday, our attendees were treated to a sneak peek-achu (sorry) of the pop-up Pokémon Center which was followed by demos at Play Lab, where guests could learn the important differences between Energy and Evolution cards.
Saturday kicked off with a Pokémon Horizons-themed breakfast where attendees boarded the Pokémon Airship, The Brave Olivine (actually The Sunborn Yacht Hotel) to watch two episodes of the latest series over a full English. From there Eevee-ryone was free to take part in side games, visit the Battle Lab and watch the exciting conclusion to the champs.
With our team lining up a host of interviews with competitors across the weekend, coverage has been immense with pieces on The Guardian, The Sun, METRO and Kotaku to name a few as well as broadcast segments on the likes of BBC Newsround. Social coverage has also been flooding many feeds and FYPs over the week too.
To cap it all off, we wrapped up the event announcing details of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships, which this August will be held in Hawai‘i, from 16 to 18 August.
Goodbye London and aloha Honolulu, we can’t wait!
