If the past 18 months have shown us anything, itโs that gaming is bigger than ever and we all really, really miss going to live music shows.
So when O2 told us that Londonโs iconic The O2 was coming to Fortnite Creative, we couldnโt wait to get involved.
Live for a week, this was the first time that the worldโs most popular entertainment venue had ever appeared in a videogame and so it was only right that it debuted in the worldโs biggest game.
Fans wouldnโt just get to run around and explore a virtual recreation of The O2 though, the digital venue was built from the ground up by a dedicated team of gaming architects to be a true playground full of secrets to uncover.
What’s more, to headline the week-long celebration, one of the UKโs best up-and-coming bands, easy life, played a virtual set, becoming the first British act ever to do so, following in the footsteps of such huge names as Travis Scott and Marshmello.
We worked closely with the team at BBC Click to create an exclusive broadcast story that also discussed whether similar gigs or hybrid experiences might become the norm for live music.
We also placed interviews with the band and sold in to a whole range of media, from gaming and tech press to music writers that would normally never look twice at a gaming story.
In total we landed over 350 pieces of coverage globally, including over 20 national pieces from the likes of The Sun (multiple times), i News (print and online), Mirror Online and three print pieces in Metro, with mountains of other great coverage from titles such as NME, MSN and Newsweek.
